Non-typical Designs

The Gems team has now opened a Define My Style store that showcases their goth designs. The store can be found at http://www.definemystyle.com/users/blackecho/store

They started the store out with three designs, Non-typical, Natural Beauty or Natural Death, and Passed On or Still Here.

Non-typical is an overnight bag where the designer used the typical black fabrics and mixed in fabrics that most people wouldn’t think were goth. The Designer’s note on this bag was “The typical goth style is black and red colorings with chains and skulls but this is a non-typical style bag. I got the inspiration from the Lolita style.” The designer used solid black fabric for the main part of the bag and threw in a pink floral pattern to accent it. The flowers are of Japanese style. When asked about her design the Designer said “I’ve always loved the Lolita trends from Japan so I made a bag that could go with Lolita clothing.”

Natural Beauty or Natural Death is a messenger bag that uses the same fabrics as Non-typical but changes the coloring of the flowers from pink to red. When asked about this design, the designer said “My inspiration for this bag comes from my love of the Asian style. I used the red Japanese style floral print instead of the pink one to add the typical goth look.”

Passed On or Still Here is a tote bag that mixes darkness and light together in one bag. The Designer used a solid black fabric and a black and white patterned fabric. When asked about this design, the designer said “I have always been fascinated with peoples views of darkness and light and I think the subject goes well with the goth trends, so I designed this bag to bring that idea to tangible means.”

Blackecho, the only man on the team, allowed his female friends to take his fashion sense into their own hands and they surprised him with what they came up with. His personality is quite similar to Serenity’s so they chose another colored marching-band style jacket and matching Tripp pants.They also chose a black T-shirt that says “Goth Girl” to show his more feminine aspects and a black choker. The final part of his outfit was a pair of plain black boots to show that he doesn’t like real fancy things. When we asked him what he thought about his teammate’s work he said “I wasn’t sure what they would come up with at first because they usually like to play jokes on me when it comes to fashion but this time they did a wonderful job. I really loved the outfit they made me.”

They chose a marching-band style jacket, and matching Tripp pants to show her music talent, a tank top with a Celtic cross and a rose to show her sense of identity as a pagan priestess. They also chose a Victorian cross necklace to show her past as a christian child, Victorian arm warmers to show her longing for the past. The last pieces that tie together the outfit are the knee-length leather boots, and the larger punk purse to show her modern aspects. Each main piece of this outfit was black and red to represent Serenity’s darker path. When asked about her outfit, she replied with “My friend’s did so well that it was like I had designed it myself.”

They picked a dark pink and black Victorian ball gown, black and purple Victorian earrings and a black choker. They also chose a steam-punk style jacket to go over the gown when outdoors, and punk style pumps to round of the modern edge of the look. When asked about the outfit her team chose for her, Jazlynn said “My team knows me so well that they didn’t even have to ask what I thought about the outfit. They knew I would love it. It fits me so well.”

The team put together outfits for each member and Jazlynn’s stuck with her elegant but modern personality.
